A: I have a very interesting guest for you today it is Peter Conlon from Wellness and he is on the line to talk to us about water, it is an area that I have been interested in for some time because there are lots of different products out there lots of different filtration methods and to be quite honest I have been really confused about it all and Peter who has a wealth of experience in this area it's Peter Conlon from Wellness and he joins us today
P: Yes, good afternoon Alan.
A: Thanks for coming on the line, can you give us a little bit of a brief outline of your background?
P: Ok, I have always had an interest in the environment which is where my interest in water came from even though I used to use a branch of quantum physics in the financial markets to trade which gave me a little bit of an understanding of what goes on in the quantum world and one day I became disillusioned with the financial world and all those sorts of esoteric things and became more interested in water from a purely , what it could do for my health area, and I started investigating in the early 1990's with a view to seeing what we could come up with as a new water filtration technology.
A: So how did you actually become involved in water what was the actual process for you?
P: Well the trigger was at the time there was quite a controversial article in Nature by Dr Jacques Benveniste from the French National Institute of Health who proposed from his experiments that water has a memory, and that raised a howl of condemnation from academia and the press so much so that he was hounded and asked to leave his job. When I heard about this I thought that's very interesting as I had known about homeopathy and nobody really knew at this point how homeopathy worked. People think they know how homeopathy works -- Benveniste was actually claiming it and said he could in fact go to such an extent to take the electro magnetic signal for, say, aspirin and transmit that down the telephone lines to a beaker of distilled water and it would imprint on that beaker homeopathically an aspirin effect, or whatever the case would be, and this of course sounded preposterous to the orthodox scientists of the time but I was really interested from a quantum view. And for anyone out there who understands a little bit about quantum physics, particles that have been in contact with each other no matter how far apart they become apart in the universe there is the effect called quantum non-locality where they will behave as though they are still connected. So from a purely physic point of view the idea that water can retain information, act like a hard disk on a computer, if you will, made perfect sense and I thought this is a really interesting area to explore so I started out on a journey to find out more I was intrigued.
A: ok great, and there are a lot of ways to look at water and the way I look at water is that it is obviously something that we need and predominantly to drink. But when we have a look at something like tap water we know that there must be a better way that we need to treat it in some way to put it into our bodies and obviously the govt does various things to it but then if we want to look at treating it further than that there are things as reverse osmosis, carbon filtering these sorts of things can you run us through the pros and cons of these sort of approaches?
P: Well ok, when we looked at this initial issue we thought who wants to drink something put it in your body consciously knowing it has an active chemical in it such as chlorine. It just didn't make sense as there were lots of reports at the time in the early 90's about flow on effects of long term chemical exposure and so it made sense to me why would you do this.
So to start with we wanted to look at the basic filtration technologies that were out there we looked at carbons, we looked at Reverse Osmosis, we looked at Distillation and they all did a very good job of removing contaminants which I guess from any standard water filtration point of view is the end objective but as we dug a little deeper and of course this idea that kept gnawing at the back of our mind about water memory, but as we dug a little deeper we found that the idea for health is that you want to drink something as close to nature as possible, now Carbon does that because it retains minerals. Reverse Osmosis and Distilled which people in the natural health industry have said is the best sort of water because everything is removed even dissolved solids which simply can often be just calcium and magnesium, the minerals that you would find in any good spring water and so we looked at the idea and thought we are going to try to follow the natural principle here as there were rumblings in the scientific and healthcare community that de-mineralized water that you can't find anywhere in nature except in rain may not be the right way to go. And in the back of my mind if you have pure water, pure H2O what is this energetic effect you have taken out the contaminants but perhaps I suspected at the time you still have the memory of the contaminants in the water so I rejected all the conventional technologies out there for one reason or another because they weren't producing a water that was close to nature or dealing with the memory effect.
Then I became aware of Victor Schauberger whom some of your listeners may be aware of he's done a lot of fascinating work on water and natural hydrological cycles and I became interested in his concept of what he called immature and mature water and what he called immature water was for instance rain water that had fallen to the ground or been collected in a tank and it hadn't gone through the full hydrological cycle, his proposition was that when water is ready to drink nature will give it to you in its right form and he saw that springs were the only true source of natures water so in the hydrological cycle that he proposes when rain water falls it percolates through the ground and gets into the aquifer and on that journey because it is demineralized water must have minerals to maintain what we call stability, it will take the minerals form the earth and as it hits the aquifer it travels along on its journey and in some places these aquifers can go the distance of the planet from pole to pole.
This water eventually hits a fissure comes up as a natural spring and as it comes up it takes the various minerals on its upward journey which is why you have some of the great spring waters that you buy in bottles for 2 and 3 dollars a litre have got a wonderful mineral content and, naturally, a natural taste which is what water should have it is the minerals that give water a taste. So I was very passionate about following a natural way to drink water rather than the chemically pure idea of distilled and reverse osmosis and the carbon idea which is really great for removing chemicals but again none of those technologies actually treated water energetically and that's what I was looking for.
A: OK, so what you are saying is that the water we are drinking, out of the tap if you like, generally at least here in Perth and I guess it's the same in most places round the country is based on reservoirs and rainwater coming in and it goes through a process goes through our rivers and collects some minerals and so on but then it goes into our reservoirs get treated with chlorine and fluoride added this kind of thing so by the time it gets to us it is immature from what Schauberger said, it hasn't gone through the full cycle it's also had a lot of chemicals added and energetically it is not like it has just come out of a spring obviously so what's the solution you have found for all that?
P: What Schauberger proposed is A. it needs minerals to be healthy, we know this now, and B. obviously when we add all these chemicals to water you do enormous damage to yourself if you happen to drink those chemicals and energetically to the water. The other thing he proposed and this is evident when you see a natural stream or any action of water when it goes down the plug in the bathroom it forms vortex.
And what Schauberber said is that if you push water down a straight pipe its natural affinity to form vortex's is constricted and that raises the internal temperature of the water column and it has other energetic effects that he considered not desirable. It is not desirable from a drinking point of view that they have added the chemicals and other things that it picks up and also that it has been forced down miles and miles of pipe it's not necessarily going to be good for our internal systems.
A: Not all water comes from reservoirs these days there is a lot of talk of recycling of water from various places which I would guess would have their own issues energetically.
P: Various municipalities are talking about recycled sewage water even if they are only adding it at a 5% dilution. A while ago I was having a drink of water with some friends in London and they said that has just been through 7 pairs of kidneys, on average, and I thought hang on a minute really, what does that mean energetically, it might be chemically pure and have all the safest labels on it in the world but what does that mean energetically if water has a memory?
A: So Peter you are talking about the memory of water and so on, does that relate then to a book I have seen around called the ‘Messages in Water', is that the one?
P: Yes, it's Dr Masaru Emoto, and the book is ‘The Messages of Water', he has done a few volumes now, and for listeners that haven't seen it it has all these beautiful pictures of water crystals that are taken of water at the point of freezing and they are like little snow flakes but the thing that completely blew me away was that he showed that as water comes out of a spring it has a beautiful six sided hexagonal crystal shape and as it passes the various towns on the way down to the ocean he took samples at various points and he found that after the 1st town it wasn't such a beautiful crystal anymore, until the 2nd town it was starting to not even form a crystal until he got finally to the third town which was a heavy industrial city where they would pour lots of chemicals into the water on its way back to the ocean, and the water had lost entirely its ability to form crystals, I was blown away by this information as it kind of confirmed the information from Benveniste and other scientists investigating this subject about water memory. I saw this book and thought here we are we've got someone who can graphically show water's memory in a crystal form and what the crystal meant to me coming from a quantum or mathematical point of view was that the more evolved something is the more complex it becomes such as you see in a great crystal and the less evolved it is the less propensity it has to show crystal shape. So what this demonstrated to me very graphically that water is indeed affected by everything that it comes into contact with.
More importantly in Emoto's second volume he shows he can take distilled water that interestingly doesn't form a crystal at all it just forms a big square blob but he could imprint if you like using prayer or some energy sorts of thoughts or placing a picture of another beautiful crystal under this beaker of distilled water he was able to get the crystal to grow in the water in the formally blank slate of the distilled water and that finally confirmed to me that water is a very, very finely tuned energetic substance and so it was a fascinating expose and it is finally starting to sweep the world this idea of Emoto's crystals he featured in “What the Bleep do we Know?” which is a very famous movie right now about quantum physics.
It really started to bring to life what we had been thinking back in the 90's about water and memory and what many other scientists had long proposed and to be honest what the homeopathic community for over 100 years had been trying to tell everybody that water had this incredible ability to hold information or an electro-magnetic charge one of the things that is interesting from a mathematics point of view is when you look at those crystals the beautiful crystals indicate higher order higher, revolution and anything that is of a higher order and higher revolution is better for you it's good for you and the lower order it is the less good the less healthy it is for you so the crystals that were totally deformed were telling us well maybe we shouldn't drink that, and so it was a totally fascinating journey and a great book.
A: Yes, yes, and so is there anything else we want to see in water other that what you have said so far.
P: I have mentioned the key things, we want to see the minerals retained the chemicals removed, we want to electro-magnetically cleanse the water. Then the idea came to me if we start with a blank slate we cleanse the water why can't we naturally programme it. Why can't we actually use some of the natural things out there, nature's energy, to re-programme the water maybe we could actually recreate the natural effect of some to these great natural springs that are out and so the wish list kind of developed into programming water and optimizing it for improving cellular hydration and so we started then off on a journey to find out what was the best way to do that.
A: Ok, but one of the things you haven't mentioned in your sort of wish list in anything to do with PH or the alkalinity and I know there are various filters out there that talk about the body's too acidic which we know generally because of the food in western diets and so on but what about this theory about drinking alkaline water?
P: I'm glad you mentioned that because there is a lot of good information about becoming alkaline per say to maintain healthy balance in your body but the whole idea of the ph of water affecting that alkalinity is one complete myth. We looked at these what they call electrical ionizers or alkaline water machines as they are being marked under and all they are is two metal electrodes which create an electro chemical split in the water and by doing so they alter the ph quite dramatically and they alter it to such an extent that you don't find in nature, but the idea is just following simple logic that if I'm acidic I should drink or eat foods that are alkaline. But particularly the idea of drinking water that is highly alkaline now I don't want to get too scientific on people here because its not really alkaline water for instance you can add one tiny drop of lemon juice to water and you will bring its ph, which is the traditional measure of alkalinity, right back down to neutral. What these devices really do is just create a high ph water. People in their willingness to accept anything that sounds good and will help them personally and health wise typically will accept anything told to them and they disconnect their logic. We try to explain to people, well if you drink high ph water what happens when it hits your gut your gut is normally highly acid what happens is very simple the hi ph of the water is immediately neutralized. It can have no alkalizing effect on your body the only alkalizing effect you will get from water in general irregardless of whether it is ph 5.5 or 8.5 or 10 is the hydration because it's the hydration the removal of toxins out of the body and water is the only method to do that as we all know when we get up in the morning it's the removal of toxins by drinking more water that helps you achieve an alkaline balance of course by doing the other things as well by eating the right foods, exercising and so on but the whole idea behind changing your alkalinity by drinking high ph water is a scientific medical and marketing myth.
A: Ok, very interesting. So just recapping then in terms of what you are looking for, in terms of this whole issue of water you want it to filter well and remove chemicals, bacteria and so on but retain dissolved minerals because they are beneficial and you wanted to treat the water energetically so that it goes from a state of being loaded destroyed energetically, loaded with the information of those contaminants and you wanted to see if you could make it even better in terms of hydrating the body and basically not affecting its ph or alkalinity because effectively you don't find that in nature so why would you want to recreate it?
P: That's right some of the world's great springs are slightly alkaline so it had no bearing on our search we wanted to create a water that was more focused on hydrating the cells more efficiently than anything else.
A: Were you able to achieve all those things and if so how did it all come about?
P: The answer to both questions is yes and how it came about is after putting a research group together where we studied all these things in the early 90's we studied the electrical ionizers, we studied Schauberger devices, vortex devices, crystals; I can't tell you, we had a warehouse full of various devices that claimed to alter water. I had a phone call from a friend who said “Gee you've got to have a look at this thing coming out of Japan it hasn't been released out here in the west yet but I really want you to take a look at it.” And so I got some information forwarded to me and it was about this unique device that would filter the water, retain the minerals and it had a column in it, a tube, full of all these volcanic rocks. I hadn't seen a device like this before, this was early 2000, and I thought of course! That's the way you do it! What this gentleman has done is recreate the way water would bubble up through a volcanic spring, he has put a column of all these volcanic rocks in and some of them are very special from the literature I had read. So I got on the phone and spoke to a gentleman called Haru Naito who was the developer of the technology. He is Japanese and he relocated to the United States, and we started talking and after only a 10 minute call to him and his partners and I realized that this was possibly the most advanced water technology that I had seen in 7 to 10 years. It was doing everything that we were seeking and more, it was doing things that we didn't know were possible, so I got on a plane and started drinking the water as soon as I arrived and within 20 minutes of drinking that water I was going through a mild detox.
